3 Weeks Old

Lewis is now 3 weeks old. It's amazing how fast time has gone! He is awake now for extended periods of time now. Its looks like he will have big brown eyes. I think he has the family affinity for music, he love listening to songs we play for him and loves when his Daddy sings to him. Mark is constantly trying to excercise Lewis' legs in preparation for his soccer career. He's gaining weight like crazy; he is 9lbs 6 oz. - almost 1lb bigger than last week.

Getting the hang of it...

After Lewis being home for a week, we're starting to get into a routine of sorts. I can't believe how fast the days fly by! Lewis is a good baby, and we're starting to learn what his various cries mean. He's gaining weight like a champ, he weighed 8 lbs 6 oz. yesterday...a gain of one pound in less than a week! He sleeps at pretty regular intervals, waking about every two hours at night. Nights haven't been too bad... he basically feeds and gets his diaper changed and goes right back to sleep.

Sleep?

The lack of sleep is starting to catch up with us...Lewis is angelic and peaceful during the day, but has bouts of unconsolable distress at night. The good news is that he gives us a few good hours of sleep somewhere during the night, but around 2AM, his wild side comes out (we have no idea where he gets it from). As time goes by, hopefully we can establish a routine, but for now...we just expect to appreciate the sleep we get.

Home at Last!

We were so excited to show Lewis his new home! We arrived at our house on Saturday late morning after a successful discharge from the hospital. We've spent the weekend relaxing with Lewis and taking it easy.
We had several visitors today... our friends Don and Michele brought us breakfast tacos and visited in the morning. Uncle Branko and Aunt Slavna came in from Houston this afternoon to see Lewis as well. We had a great lunch at the house as we all oogled over the baby :)
Minnie and Sissy are adjusting well to their new little brother although Minnie has been a bit "clingy" to Mark and needs some extra attention.

Visitors to the Hospital

We had lots of friends and family visit us at the hospital, including Lewis' new best friends, Gavin and Ella J. We are looking forward to many years of lining up the three of them in pictures as they grow and change!

Hospital Stay - Days 1-3

We stayed in the hospital for three days after Lewis was born. After surgery, I was feeling great, but when the pain killers wore off about 24 hours after delivery, I needed some time to recover.
Night one was pretty rough. Nurses checked on both Lewis and me about every hour, machines beeped constantly and I was hooked up to uncomfortable IVs. Not to mention that Mark and I were just getting used to Lewis and what he needed! Mark and I got about an hour of sleep, but we were on such a high, it didn't matter!

The nights have gotten progressively better as we learn more about Lewis and what he needs and I gain strength. By night three we had learned about two things that really saved us: a pacifier and burping :)

Our days at the hospital seemed to go by fast with checkups from doctors and nurses and lots of time with family and friends.
By Saturday morning, we were ready to leave and both Mom and baby were discharged with a clean bill of health.

Happy Birthday, Lewis!

July 29th, at 2:11 PM, Lewis joined us in the world. He weighed in at 7lbs 7 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. Observants agree that Lewis has his daddy's hair (no doubt) and his mom's chin and jawline. Lewis' hands are HUGE (maybe from his great-grandpa Flajnik?) and he still has some newborn "fur" on his back complimenting his full black head of hair :)

Delivery was very pleasant, I went in for a scheduled c-section at St. David's hospital. We were all thrown for a bit of a curve when the surgery, originally scheduled for 4PM, was moved up at the last minute to 2PM. We were excited to become parents a few hours earlier than anticipated. In total, the surgery took about 35 minutes and Lewis was delivered in the first 15 minutes (the wonders of modern medicine!). The scheduled c-section was due to Lewis being breach, and when he was born, we saw how breach he was! He arrived butt first (insert joke here) and was folded up, feet next to his head. As the nurses cleaned him and checked him out, his legs flailed around and wanted to remain up by his ears.

After a short recovery pediod, I was reunited with Lewis and Mark. We then were able to show him to our family who joined us at the hospital (Grandma and Grandpa Rangel and Lewis and Uncle Robert).
